Description
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a synthetic mitochondria-targeted compound studied for its interaction
with cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane. In preclinical research, it has been
investigated for its proposed role in supporting electron transport chain efficiency and ATP
synthesis in cellular and animal models of mitochondrial stress.
Laboratory studies have explored SS-31 side effects on reactive oxygen species (ROS) production
and membrane lipid peroxidation in mitochondrial dysfunction models. It has been studied in the
context of research into rare mitochondrial disorders, including Barth syndrome and primary
mitochondrial myopathy, as well as in animal models of aging-related muscle and cardiac tissue
changes, and in kidney and neurological injury models.
Elamipretide has been investigated in human clinical trials for mitochondrial disease indications;
it is not an FDA-approved drug product.
This listing does not offer that investigational product — it is sold strictly as a research reagent, distinct from any clinical trial material, and is not intended for human use.
